




The new wave of digital arts in Taiwan

1970 Stephane is born in Marseilles , harbor city located in south of France , the “Gate of South” as called it the reporter and writer Albert Londres.
1985 Attends Adolf Thiers High school where he studies fine arts and art history as a major. Becomes interested in all forms of arts including writing and photography. He writes several articles for a fanzine and takes his first photographs with his dad's camera.
1989 – 1992 After graduated, starts to study History at Montpellier University and attends his first Chinese lessons. He failed the first year exams.
After some part-time jobs he completed his military service (1 year) and travels to Canada .
Get involved in photography. Records the daily life in the streets of Marseilles , using an old silver film camera and developing himself black and white pictures.
1992 – 1996 After military service, decides to study Chinese at University of Provence . He graduated in 1996 with a Master of Arts, “Chinese language and civilization” and a Bachelor of Arts, “French as foreign language”.
In 1996, because he specialized on Taiwan history, granted with a two years scholarship from Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs to study in Taiwan .
1996 – 1998 Attends Taiwan Normal University , where he studies mandarin Chinese.
1998 – 1999 Teach French at Alliance Française of Taipei .
1999 After almost one year of teaching he decided to travel to United States of America . The two months trip leads him to Florida and New York City .
2000 - 2004 Without a steady job, he finally returns to France and starts to work in Paris for immigration office as interpreter. At this time, he speaks fluently mandarin Chinese and English.
Working the day, at night he attends courses to get a Master degree in International Relations.
He also works on a documentary project about Taiwan History and publishes a book in Taiwan about the French – Chinese war and blockage of Taiwan (1884-1885). Creates a very popular website filled with various articles analyzing different aspect of Taiwanese culture, society and History.
2004 – 2007 The year 2004 is a turning point. Willing to go back to Asia, he finally gets a job at Radio Taiwan International (RTI), thanks to his knowledge of Taiwan culture and society, his writing skills and his fluency in mandarin Chinese.
Radio Taiwan International gives him the opportunity to really work as a journalist, while experimenting and enjoying the job of radio host.
On the side, he writes various articles for French magazine “Taiwan Aujourd'hui” and publishes documentary photographs.
In december 2005, « Formose vue par un marin français du XIXe siècle » is published by “l'Harmattan”.
During this period of time, he also does translations and dubbing jobs including t ranslation and subtitles for documentary “The new wave of digitals arts in Taiwan ”, Taiwanese documentary “ Let it be” . Gets involved in digital photography: Records Taiwan's daily life and independent music scene.
2007 – 2008 in September 2007, decided to move to mainland China after many trips to Beijing and Shanghai .
He establishes himself as independent photographer and writer.
In march 2008, takes part in collective exhibition: “2008 spring group” in Macau . |
